National Federation of Music Clubs Auditions

Congratulations!
Riya Noah

Congratulations to our piano students, Riya Zutshi and Noah O'Brien, for obtaining Superior ratings during their recent National Federation of Music Clubs auditions!

Riya played
Amen Corner by Vandall and Appaloosa by Demarest with great attention to articulation and dynamics. Her performance was praised for being both imaginative and exciting. Bravo, Riya!

Noah played the
Arabesque by Burgmuller with crisp and even 16th notes, and Proceed with Caution by Sallee with excellent attention to detail. As the audition review read, "Ms. Sallee, the composer, would have been proud to hear you!"

Great job to both students! Both started their preparations with Dr. Christine Miller, and finished them with their current teachers, Vicki Masters and Isabel Bowen, respectively.

Former Academy Student Excels

Former Academy student Destinee Johnson has obtained her masters degree from Stanford University. Destinee was a longtime piano student of Dr. Christine Miller and performed her senior recital in 2010. Congratulations, Destinee!

Academy Student Performs Senior Piano Recital

Forrest Wang performed his Senior Piano Recital on May 18 at Anderson University. A student of Dr. Christine Miller for six years, he is pictured here with Dr. Miller and his 6-year grand trophy for superior performances in the SC Federation Auditions. He has won numerous honors including first place in his division in 2012 and Honorable Mention in the SCMTA State Auditions in 2014. In 2011, he undertook the Associated Board Royal School of Music Grade 5 Examinations in Atlanta and passed with merit. He also plays the saxophone and is principal saxophone in the Carolina Youth Symphony. He has been a member of the All-Regions Band from grades 8-11.

In addition to being musically talented, Forrest is gifted academically. He was captain of the Daniel HS Academic Team, an AP and National Merit Scholar, as well as a candidate for the Presidential Scholar award. An accomplished chess player, he has won or placed in SC Scholastic Chess tournaments. He graduated from Daniel High School in June as Salutatorian of his senior class. He plans to enroll in the University of Pittsburgh in August on a full scholarship to study computer science. We are proud of his accomplishments and wish him well on his path of excellence.
