Kathryn Knauer

A soprano with extensive experience as an opera and concert soloist, Ms. Knauer received her BM from Furman University and her MM from Northwestern University. Most recently, she has sung the roles of Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata and Pamina in Mozart's The Magic Flute with the Greenville Opera, and has performed numerous solos with the Greenville Chorale, Chamber Ensemble, and Symphony.

Ms. Knauer has been teaching voice for ten years. Her primary focus is to ensure each singer is using healthy voice techniques, avoiding injury while improving musicality. She also strives to deepen a student's understanding of the music, whether it is feeling the emotion of a piece or studying the background of the piece. She feels that all people have a unique voice and learning style. Her students are in various stages of life, with different voice types and needs, and she is careful to find the best way to advance each individual's technique, building his/her strengths and improving weaknesses. She has prepared many students for shows, competitions, and college auditions, and feels that adequate, effective preparation is more than just "sounding good."
